MOLD

Molds are the most typical form of fungus found on earth, comprising approximately 25% of the earth’s biomass. Inhalation exposure to mold indoors can cause negative health effects. Molds produce allergens, irritants and, in some cases, potentially toxic substances (mycotoxins). Breathing in mold may also cause hypersensitivity pneumonitis, an uncommon disease that resembles bacterial pneumonia. In addition, mold exposure may result in opportunistic infections in persons whose immune systems are weakened or suppressed. Mold contamination also has a detrimental effect on the structural integrity of the home, rooting wood and other fibers and producing unsightly growth and odors
